Bunny Snacks Cucumber Pie
Rabbit Cucumber Rolls are a tasty and healthy snack option that is made with cucumber, which itself is high in water content and helps to replenish your rabbit’s daily water needs, as well as containing vitamins and minerals that are beneficial to your rabbit’s health. The refreshing taste of cucumber can stimulate the rabbit’s appetite, and the low-calorie nature of cucumber means that it does not put too much of an energy burden on the rabbit.
Ingredients
- Cucumber: 1-2, adjusted for rabbit’s appetite
- Apple: 1, cut into small pieces or dices
- Raisins (optional): a small amount, as a source of sweetness
- Cheese (optional): a small amount to add flavor but be careful not to overdo it
- Alfalfa (optional): a small amount, as an extra source of nutrients
Instructions
- Prepare the cucumbers: select fresh cucumbers, wash and cut into segments, each about the length of an adult’s half-thumb.
- Hollow out the cucumber: Hollow out the center of the cucumber segments, one side only, leaving a bottom, being careful not to hollow through.
- Handle the apples: wash, peel and core the apples and cut them into small pieces or dices.
- Filling the cucumber: fill the hollowed out cucumber segments with diced apples, about halfway up the cucumber segments.
- Add raisins and cheese (optional): if your rabbit prefers, add a handful of raisins and cheese cubes to the cucumber segments.
- Add alfalfa (optional): a small amount of alfalfa can be added to the cucumber segments for added nutrition.
- Topping: Set the hollowed out cucumber segments aside and then cut a small thin slice of cucumber to cover the filled cucumber segments to complete the top of the cucumber pie.
- Feeding: Once made, cucumber pie can be fed to rabbits as a snack. Be careful not to overdo it, 2 a day for young rabbits and 3-4 a day for adult rabbits.
